Carolyn Singleton
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t draw. Scribbles were first and then came dogs and angels. My first obsession was for ballerinas and palm trees and volcanos. I had never seen any of those things. I lived on an acreage outside of Oklahoma City. Then I won a poster contest or something like that in the 7th grade. The subject matter, slums in a big city. (I had never seen any slums!) My imagination was vivid and my dreams were in color.
When I was a Junior/Senior in high school my parents enrolled me in private art classes. That was my introduction to pastels and portraits.
I graduated from OSU with a BFA in oils. I spent many years in radio and television. I found out you could make more money in sales. That was important because I had two sons. I moved from Oklahoma to Leavenworth in 1986 to work with my brother in a franchise business. Subsequently, I met the ladies at the Carnegie Arts Center, my husband of 33 years and started painting again.
The patterns found in nature are fascinating to me as is color. I recently started adding metallics to some collage pieces and paintings because nature does make things so beautiful and vibrant. The mediums that I use are: oils, acrylics, pastels, charcoals, encaustics and mono prints.

Good Art won’t match your sofa!
